Films for Cheese Packaging

The dairy industry requires packaging solutions capable of adapting to products with different characteristics, formats and shelf-life requirements. From fresh and soft cheeses to aged specialties, including mozzarella, ricotta, portioned and grated cheeses, each category has specific requirements in terms of barrier properties, processability and product presentation.

For this reason, we develop flexible films and laminated materials for the main applications in the industry, from thermoforming to flow pack, while continuously investing in mono-material structures and PPWR-ready solutions.

What is the advantage of skin films compared to traditional vacuum packaging for portioned cheese?

Skin films adhere perfectly to the surface of the product, limiting movement within the package and enhancing its appearance. This technology also makes it possible to use more compact packaging, improving logistics efficiency and product presentation at the point of sale.

How do you select the right gas permeability (OTR) for cheese?

The choice of OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) depends on the type of cheese, its moisture content and the required shelf life.

Fresh cheeses such as mozzarella and ricotta generally require different barrier levels compared to aged cheeses, which need stricter control of gas exchange in order to preserve their quality and organoleptic characteristics.

What does developing PPWR-ready packaging for the dairy industry mean?
It means designing structures that combine the performance required for cheese packaging with greater attention to recyclability and material optimization. The goal is to support producers and processors in adopting simple solutions that are aligned with future regulatory requirements and market expectations.

Laminated Films

Films for tray-sealing, VFFS and HFFS machines

Laminated films for tray-sealing machines are ideal for cheese packaging.

ITP manufactures sealable films with excellent performance even in the presence of contaminants; peelable films suitable for different substrates, including PE, PVC, APET, PS and PP; with barrier properties tailored to specific requirements, also available in anti-UV and anti-fog versions.

Films for vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machines have been formulated to meet the preservation requirements of mozzarella packed in brine, which requires a relatively short shelf life, as well as other products requiring a higher level of barrier protection.

Laminates for horizontal flow pack (HFFS) applications offer distinctive features tailored to different requirements and end uses, including a wide range of thicknesses and performance properties.

ITP manufactures sealable films with excellent performance even in the presence of contaminants; peelable films suitable for different substrates, including PE, PVC, APET, PS and PP; with barrier properties tailored to specific requirements, also available in anti-UV and anti-fog versions.

ITP laminated films ensure optimal preservation and safety of dairy products while helping to reduce waste.
